Delayed by restrictions caused by Covid-19 safety concerns, Augmenta was finally presented with EIMA's coveted 2020/21 First Prize for 'Technological Innovation' and the 'Blue Award' at this year's reopening of the Feder Unacoma/EIMA exhibition.
EIMA was established by the Italian Agricultural Machinery Manufacturers Federation in the late 1960s and has since become an acclaimed international fixture which showcases innovations, machinery, and the myriad of components which constitute modern agriculture. Cancelled in 2020 due to the pandemic, the reopening held in Bologna from 19 to 23 October 2021 was the 44th staging of the event and an ideal opportunity to 'meet and greet' those in the industry after the unprecedented hiatus.
Although continued pandemic restrictions excluded major countries such as China and India, it still featured some 1,350 exhibiting companies representing over 40 different countries, and was attended by as many as 150,000 people.
An important part of the exhibition is the Technical Innovation Competition, which rewards innovative solutions to all types of agricultural issues. In the face of some stiff competition from more established companies, the Augmenta System (aka Augmenta Field Analyzer) won First Prize for 'Technological Innovation' for the following reasons: “Cost saving; reduction of environmental impact; can be retrofitted in a wide range of applications.” It also won the 'Blue Award' for a device exhibiting outstanding environmental features.
The Augmenta System is the world's first real-time, camera-based VRA (Variable Rate Application) control device which uses a combination of machine vision and artificial intelligence to offer farmers fully-automatic, logistics-free and cost-beneficial precision to their operations. As a growing number of adoptees already know to their benefit, it improves both sustainability and profitability because it reduces agrochemical inputs and waste, while boosting productivity and earnings.
These prestigious EIMA awards give definitive credence to the versatility and power of the Augmenta System, which is already available through Augmenta's global Dealer network in 26 countries.
At an exclusive EIMA after-hours function for exhibitors, held at the opulent Palazzo Re Enzo in central Bologna, Augmenta General Manager, Dimitri (Jim) Evangelopoulos graciously accepted the award on behalf of George Varvarelis and the company they both founded.
“George and I are immensely proud that the Augmenta Team has been given recognition for the truly outstanding work they have done,” Mr. Evangelopoulos said. “We were a startup company just a few years ago. It's thanks to their dedication, and the enthusiasm of our Dealers and ordinary farmers alike, that the concept of Augmented Farming is now poised to truly revolutionize the agricultural industry.”
No doubt the recognition is well deserved, given the important role Augmented Farming is set to play in both small and large agricultural operations all around the world.
